Engineering Notes

Measure visual recognition performance on target data

01

Data Definitions and Scope

Document target classes, acquisition equipment, resolution, scenario distribution, and annotation rules. Split training, validation, and test data by acquisition batch or object to prevent leakage of similar images from inflating metrics.

02

Models and Deployment

Select models for detection, segmentation, or classification, and agree on inference hardware, latency budgets, and confidence thresholds. Catalog missed detections, false positives, small objects, and occlusion scenarios, and define where reliable recognition is not possible.

03

Delivery Evidence

Provide an evaluation dataset inventory, per-class metrics, representative failure samples, and the runtime environment. An overall average score cannot replace acceptance of critical classes; changes in data distribution also need monitoring after launch.
