Engineering Notes

Robot navigation starts with the task domain and constraints

01

Define the Operating Domain First

Specify indoor/outdoor environments, maps, chassis kinematics, sensor configurations, speed limits, and no-go zones. Planning and control must use the same coordinate and time systems, and behavior on localization failure must be agreed in advance.

02

Closed-Loop Navigation

Integrate and test localization, environment representation, global planning, local control, and task management separately. Nav2 provides navigation and behavior-tree components; actual configurations still need adaptation to the robot and scenario.

03

Separate Software Testing from Field Validation

Measure goal-reaching rates, collisions, and recovery behavior in simulation, then conduct field validation under a separate plan. Passing simulation does not guarantee safety in real environments.
