Outsourcing Services Guide
Knowledge Guides /Does source code handover mean all assets and dependencies can be transferred?

Source-code handover and rights to use third-party assets are separate matters. Custom code can be handed over as agreed, but commercial plugins, models, images, data, and cloud services each require license confirmation. Being able to copy a file does not imply unrestricted redistribution or commercial use.
Classify assets separately
- List in-house code, open-source components, commercial dependencies, customer-supplied material, and third-party assets separately. Record versions, sources, and permitted uses for each category. Quotes and delivery lists should distinguish source files, editable projects, runtime files, and external services accessible only through calls.
Confirm restrictions before implementation
- Check whether recipients must purchase separate licenses, whether modifications are permitted, and whether assets can be distributed with the project. Mark uncertain assets for confirmation early, rather than discovering at acceptance that they cannot be delivered. Specific rights are governed by rights-holder documents and the parties' agreement, with professional review where necessary.
Avoid exposing credentials during delivery
- Source repositories should not contain personal tokens, production passwords, or unrelated customer material. Configure external services through the agreed credential-management method and provide examples without sensitive information. After handover, check whether services still depend on developers' personal accounts.
How can takeover readiness be checked?
- Install dependencies, build, and run main workflows in the recipient's environment, checking for missing components. Provide an asset inventory and known limitations, identifying items requiring separate authorization. Receiving code is only the beginning; the goal is continued maintenance under compliant conditions.
